Using Ameritech.net DSL with Windows XP

(Note: If you haven't registered your DSL account, do not follow the instructions on this page. Instead, you must create your own unique Member ID and password. Visit https://sbcreg.sbcglobal.net/SBCYahooRegEARWeb/ and follow the instructions there.)

First, verify that you have a Windows XP compatible modem and that it's properly setup. Refer to the table below. You'll also need your Ameritech.net Member ID and Password. (This information was included in your DSL Startup Kit.)

** The Texas Instruments modem is only compatible when upgrading to Windows XP from the original operating system provided by Compaq.

If you have already installed Windows XP, we suggest that you uninstall EnterNet 300 from your system or simply delete the EnterNet 300 shortcut icons that are on your desktop. (To unistall EnterNet 300, go to START > MORE PROGRAMS > EFFICIENT NETWORKS > ENTERNET 300 > UNINSTALL ENTERNET 300 and follow the on-screen instructions.)

If your modem is compatible with Windows XP, follow this procedure to configure and use the built-in Windows XP PPPoE client.

1. Go to Start > Control Panel.



2. Double-click Network Connections.



3. Double-click Create a new connection.

If you're prompted with a Location Information box, enter your area code in the field labeled "What area code (or city code) are you in now" and click OK.



4. The Network Connection Wizard will now appear. Click Next.



5. Select Connect to the Internet, then click Next.



6. Select Set up my connection manually, then click Next.



7. Select Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password, then click Next.



8. Type "Ameritech.net" in the field and click Next.



9. Enter your Ameritech.net Member ID (YourMemberID@ameritech.net) as the User name and your Ameritech.net Password as shown below.



10. The Setup process is finished. Place a check under Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop. Click Finish.



11. The connection box will appear. Click Connect to access the Internet.
