Contagious Gratitude
Two winters ago my husband survived abdominal surgery and a blood
infection which sent his temperature soaring to 107 degrees. He fully
recovered except for occasional bouts of such effusive gratitude that
our daughter groans, "Dad, you sound like a Hallmark card!"
His feelings are contagious. I, too, am thankful for:
- life in a country where people can freely speak their minds.
- the natural beauty and bounty of Earth.
- the miracle of motherhood, which has allowed me a small part
in the creation and guidance of the next generation.
- innocence, wonder and natural optimism in children.
- the lure of the unknown.
- ingenious men and women who continuously make the
"impossible" happen.
- generous people who always seem to have time to listen, give,
and anticipate the needs of others.
- my husband's love.
- laughter.
- the universal language of music.
- the rich diversity of world cultures, past and present.
- protection from chaos and criminals in our relatively
orderly society.
- kinship with family and friends
- purring kittens, roast lamb, hot showers and hundreds of
other simple pleasures.
