"If we are to be led to believe that are economy is so great I would like to have a few questions answered. The general public is being subjected to the very worst taxation in the nation. The old, young, middle-aged are being nailed on income, property, gas, and the motor vehicle boon-doggle. (Gas, emmissions, registration, etc.} state income tax, luxury tax, and on and on. Where in heaven's name have gone the millions derived from the gambling casinos, plus the state lotteries?" Frank V. Cofrancesco, Hamden
"Over the past 30 years or so, we have lost an overwhelming number of manufacturing businesses, and with them, the capital they brought into the state. I believe that unless we can rebuild our manufacturing base in Connecticut, our future is in jeopardy. Service jobs, tourism and Indian gambling won't do it. R. Brauchler, Bristol
"As long as our politicians keep trying to atract non-producing industries, ie: entertainment, sports, retail, etc., we shall continue to slide into debt. We pay more taxes and receive less services then ever before. Our share of the federal dollar is shrinking, we get back less than one-fourth of our tax dollar. We need to stop chasing out industry and start using what resources we have left to attract real producing facilities that will take the tax burden off of the shoulders of what little industry is left in the state." R.B., Naugatuck
"As a secretary, it seems to me most jobs are only temp jobs: more responsibility, less pay and no benefits. My husband's tool shop is dying, very little work anymore. We are scared to death about our financial future here in Connecticut. It's not been good for us and we are waiting for the so-called "good times" to end soon." M.A.O., Southington
"The crash is coming!!! Rowland is giving away all these refunds, which I enjoy, but there are still too many people needlessly on AFDC and welfare. He needs to crack down a little harder on these deadbeats." S.K., Plymouth
"I think the economy is great for people who already have money. The poor are in deep trouble here in our state and the apathy from they "rich" is perverse!" Susi, Madison
"... it might be interesting to do some demographics on the regions that are expressing confidence/concern about the state's economic situation ..." J.P.S., Lyme
