We blew it by not offering "Listen to books on tape" as a choice in this week's SNET Internet survey. Clearly, though, listening to music is the No. 1 choice among things to do in the car while driving.

We were surprised at how many people say they sing along, too.

Q: Besides driving, what do you do most in the car?

  • Listen to music - 2,281 (52%)
  • Sing along with music - 719 (16%)
  • Listen to talk radio - 627 (14%)
  • Talk on the phone - 76 (2%)
  • Eat and Drink - 86 (2%)
  • Talk with passengers - 162 (4%)
  • Yell at kids - 128 (2%)
  • Nothing - 336 (8%)

Your comments:

"On your driving question I was a little disappointed one of the answers wasn't 'just think' that's the only time I get to just think." J.G.G., Norwalk

Editor's Note: Good thought ...

"Your possible answers left out our most popular thing -- listening to books on tape. We get them from our library and find them the greatest way to pass time and enjoy the drive. Been doing it for 3-4 years." C.H., Newington

"You omitted the one I do most frequently. I listen to audio books on tape." Carolyn, Enfield

"I really enjoy music as I drive!" D.A.S., Enfield

"By the time I learn to drive I'll have a robot sitting next to me telling me where to go!" Lucy, Storrs

"I thought I was the only one who thought the sound of my stereo in my car sounded so good. I have a Honda Civic with cassette player and it sounds so good when I play blues on it. If my car (1989) stops running, i will keep the car because I like listening to the stereo." M.L., Windham

"I found it surprising (actually, sad) that you had 'yell at kids' as a choice and not 'talk to kids' as a choice." K.A.H., Kensington

Editor's Note: Well, we did have 'Talk with passengers ..."

"Listen to talk radio -- sure, the flamers on WTIC in the afternoon make me good and angry by the time I get home -- but on that vast wasteland known as Route 9, I often find myself reading, looking up the contents of placarded trucks, messing with other drivers, or anything else I can dream up to keep myself awake." D.3., Haddam Neck
