Our apologies to all the dads and other men out there who do it all at home -- but frankly, the results of this week's entirely unscientific SNET Internet survey indicate that men who have primary responsibility for all household chores are a decided minority.
They're a VOCAL minority, however, as you'll find out reading the comments below.
Q: Do you do your share of household chores?
- I do whatever is asked - 647 (18%)
- I always pitch in - 1,384 (38%)
- I'm a shirker - 244 (7%)
- I'm the mom, I do it all - 1,198 (33%)
- Not my responsibility - 169 (5%)
Your comments:
"I sincerely doubt that the 38% listed as "pitching in" help to any large degree when it comes to sharing the load with household chores. It has been my experience that some help is given, but the majority of chores are still done by the woman of the house!" Honeybun, Hamden
"My contrubution to doing household chores is very important to me as well in and around the house ... so that in this respect I know that I am not obligated to doing it all the time. That's why Ithink that everybody should rotate, family-wise, depending on how many people live in the household." Pete, Norwich
"Oh yes, I do it all. I'm the Dad. Mom passed away a little over a year ago from breast cancer. I never knew how much Moms had to do. It's hard ... real hard but with the help of all the kids, we do it." R.S.M.D., West Haven
"It's good to be the King." Jack, Watertown
"You should ask if the respondent is a male or female. I am the woman in the home and I do very little housework as I am the major earner." Joan, Plainville
"I am offended with the one catagory, "I am the Mom....". I happen to be the man in the house. I do the cooking, yard work, laundry (most of the time) and I help with house cleaning when I have the time. In today's environment, "I am the Mom..." is an inappropriate and disparaging comment." D.G., Lebanon
"Hey Editor, I was a little disapointed that you left out 'I'm the single parent father, I do it all' in this week's question. I think it's time to start dropping the stereo types and start comimg around to the way things are." J.P., No Town
"How about, 'I am a bachelor and I do it all'?" Jay G, Madison
"What about 'I'm the Dad, I do it all'?" Rick, Newington
"I don't have time to do chores. I am too busy either at work or at school. I leave the chores up to my father mostly. He doesn't mind too much though -- it's his way of contributing to my education. I do on occasion do little things like take out the trash or split some wood." Erick, Washington
"Let mommy do it? Come on! What a slap in the face for all the wonderful families with a good father/husband doing their fair share. SEXIST!" Larry, Woodstock
