Your comments:

"How do Bush and Gore expect the American people to trust them as a leader if they fight so bitterly and with such self-interest to win this presidential race?" A.R., Mystic

"ALL Votes Must be counted. This was prevented by the delaying tactics of the Bush camp, (Strictly BUSH LEAGUE). This means that they know they would lose if a fair count was conducted. Machines make mistakes. The exit polls by the networks were really correct, it was faulty equipment and confusing ballot layout that has given Bush the slight lead that he has. Will we have to refer to our president as 'His Fraudulency'?" P., Stamford

"I'm really surprised that so many are angered and so many are bored. This is something we may never see again in our lifetime and to see democracy in action is truly exciting. Whoever wins, we have had a fabulous civics lesson!" Steeplechaser, Washington Depot

"Hello! There is still other news out there! What happened to world hunger and all that stuff? WHY CAN'T THEY JUST TELL US WHO WINS WHEN IT'S ALL OVER!?" Lucy, Storrs

"About the Presidential Election: I am absolutely fascinated, and am loving every minute of it. It is great to educate people that we DO NOT live in a democracy, but a republic, or if you want, a representative democracy. We basically vote to have other people make government decisions for us. I now have to go back to watching to see if the US Supreme Court will ignore the US Constitution and override the state of Florida's election laws." Tom, Guilford

"The whole thing is taking too long. Gore needs to give up. The problem for him is that he will have no job, but I am angered that he wants recount after recount." G.O., Meriden

"If you look at the real picture it is not about votes. The whole thing is a set-up. GORE or BUSH -- Who cares! Just get on with it please! As this thing keeps playing itself out, they win and you lose." Francis, Windsor Locks

"Two things about this "election" have me furious. First, it is the most fraud-ridden campaign since '72, when Nixon's men successfully waged an elaborate campaign to destroy all the Democratic candidates except the weakest, McGovern, virtually insuring Nixon's win (a number of Nixon's top men served jail time for it). What a coincidence that Bush (Junior) won the state run by Bush (Jeb) courtesy of thousands of ballots thrown out, thousands given to Pat Buchannan (which even he said he shouldn't have gotten), and hundreds others given to the Libertarians thanks to a "defective" computer disk - and all in a solidly Democratic county (which, had it gone Democratic, would have given Gore the state and the White House.)

What has me even angrier is the apathy the Bush & Bush scam has received by most Americans.

When Yugoslav dictator and war criminal Slobodan Milosevic declared himself the winner of their recent election (like, Junior, before the votes were all counted) people rioted, demanding the election be fair, and the results abided by. And Milosevic stepped down. But here? Like Nixon in '72, the GOP has worked hard to ridicule the Democrats and ignore the voters who are upset, relying on public apathy to let them get away with it.

Unfortunately for our democracy, just like Nixon in '72 - who also preached about his high morals - Bush seems to have pulled it off. If only Americans could value their elections as much as the voters in eastern Europe do." Jim, Milford

"They better not put George Bush for President because he is a drunkie." K.O., Montville

"I'm so angry at this protracted divisiveness that I wish I hadn't voted for either candidate!" N.L., Windsor

"I'm angered that Bush, with the help of his brother and the other Republican cronies, stole the election in Florida. But I'm more angry with the American people for being stupid enough to vote for G. Bush. This guy was born with a silver spoon in his nose and never worked for anything in his life. He won't come clean and admit that he's used cocaine. This guy has been carried all his life. How can someone earn degrees at Yale and Harvard and still be this stupid? If you don't see the scam in that, then you are more stupid than he is. Americans will eventually get what they deserve. Empty promises." Luis, Newington

"I guess if you keep counting the same ballots enough, you may somehow win. Al Gore has been told to 'give up' by the Democratic hierarchy, so why won't he? Call it being a spoiled brat that can't get his own way. So throw a tantrum to cause the processes to stall and have the rest of the world laugh at the great Leader of Democracy. While the Republicans or any other candidate may do the same, I have a feeling that the whining would have stopped long ago.

I also have a problem with the courts in Florida changing the law without due process of the legislature. Are they not to interpret the law and not make it? And why only the most Democratic counties that are to be recounted?

What's fair is fair. Either concede defeat and take it like a real man, or recount the entire state with the cost going to the DNC and not the people that try to elect, those being the entire nation.

If Florida can't get its act together in time, the Republican-controlled Congress will vote to give Florida votes to Bush and that will make it over for good. The only loser besides Gore will be the people of Florida, whose votes were really wasted." G.M.K., Waterbury

"It is going to be a sad day in America if/when George W. Bush does in fact become president. The first time he says 'Read my lips' I'm moving to another country!" B.W., Avon

"I think Gore is trying steal the election. He should just concede." William, Waterbury

"Let this election be a lesson in election process. We need to revamp our current process. BUT this is the process governing this election and must be followed. The vote should stand as is and although I am a supporter of him, Gore should toss in the towel." Vito, Hebron

"Personally, I think that everyone should cool it and let the candidates handle this themselves. We don't need a new President until Clinton officially steps down in January. Up until then, they should decide on, and then if necessary, count every vote. The Republicans want this, the Democrats want that. Well guess what, all of us wanted our votes to count, didn't we? Granted, this should have been settled a long time ago but since it's obviously this close, now especially, every vote counts. If Mr. Bush is confident that he has won then that must mean he believes more votes have been cast for him, no? If that's the case then he should welcome a recount.

Also, you can't blame Mr. Gore for wanting the votes all counted. Think about it, seriously think about it. He won the popular vote. More people in this country voted for Mr. Gore but it still looks like Mr. Bush will be made President instead? If you were Gore, what would you do? Of course you would want the votes recounted. If the rest of the country voted for him over Bush, then logic would dictate that the same held true in Florida.

I say this - until January let them count and recount anything they like. It should be thorough and above all, it should be the vote of the people." Wes, New Britain

"This should be the last recount. No matter who wins the White House, the vote should be final, and that should be that! Both of the candidates need to grow up and stop acting like spoiled children. Bush and Gore Grow up!" M.G., Meriden
