""We have one of the best neighborhoods. Everyone gets along great, all the kids play together and we have at least 3-4 get togethers every year at each other's homes. We are like a big family." J., Old Saybrook

"I like my immediate neighbors. I know them "fairly well" by New England standards. Which means we are cordial, supportive, caring...but not "involved" unless asked to be. I have lived here in town for 35 years, been active in many town organizations, work cheerfully at them with fellow townfolk...and do not camp out on their doorsteps or vice versa. Here and there over the (married and unmarried) years I have had some very good/wonderful relationships- but not with my neighbors. So how well do we know one another? Good question." J.P.S., Old Lyme

"With regard to the 'How well do you know your neighbor' survey, the fact that 11% of those surveyed wanted to get to know their neighbors better and another (but equal) 11% of those surveyed wanted to run like hell from their neighbors has to be more than coincidental. It is both a credit to the accuracy of the survey and proof of the fact that if your neighbors don't spend any time with you, there may just be a reason." J.A.H., Stonington
