Nearly 60 percent of respondents to this week's SNET Internet survey say they do their own computer repair, maintenance and upgrades. Looking back over the past few years we were surprised to find we hadn't previously asked this question, or one like it.
Only 13 percent said they pay someone else to do this kind of work. At this point, it seems, most people who can't work on their own computer know someone who can.
Q: Who does most of your computer repair, maintenance, and upgrades?
- I do it myself - 2,349 (58%)
- Spouse - 260 (6%)
- Boyfriend or girlfriend - 49 (1%)
- Family Member - 503 (12%)
- Someone at work - 96 (2%)
- I pay someone else - 517 (13%)
Your comments:
"If I were a die-hard techie, I would do it all myself. But since I'm not, the difficult I attempt; the easy I do and, the impossible is a professional's domain!" M.F.B., Brookfield
"Thanks to My Lovely Wife, And the University of Hartford Staff. Yes all of you for helping out, because that is what you do the best!" Francis, Windsor Locks
"I will not own any technology that I cannot repair or maintain. I built this computer. It cost less than $400.00 with software. It does anything I need it to do -- reliably. It's one of five that are in regular use here ... I have the makings of a museum for PCs." Jon, Glastonbury
