"The long answer is: Greenspan has the most influence short term. The President can affect it most long term." Joel, Chester
"It's amazing how ignorant the people of Connecticut are who believe either of these two men have much control over the economy. These are the same idiots who thought Clinton did a lot for the economy too. Markets go up and down and these's not much any President or Fed Chief can do except for maybe starting a world war. Greenspan can't start a war. The liberal media (entralled by Greenspan) has made him into much more than he really is." A.C., Bristol
"How do they say it? 'Greenspeak?' I have a feeling that when he does pass away, the world will be in a bit of economic turmoil until a person that has the same ideals as he has is put into place. When he speaks, people listen. He has been the light at the end of the tunnel for the domestic ecomomy and the world's as well. We don't need another Milken to screw up things again. Invester confidence and reasonable interest rates should prevail so that everyone can afford a home and have a 'chicken in every pot' as the old saying goes. Consumer debt needs to become the way of the dinosaur... gone or under control so the ecomomy can grow, but not at a pace too fast. Business should also practice fiscal responsibility as well. Then we won't pay $100,000 for a VW." G.M.K., Waterbury
"I have very little confidence in George W. Bush. He favors the rich and little thought of the middle class and the poor." A.G.S., Monroe
"I work at a bank, and when Greenspan speaks the world reacts. There is no one in the finanacial world that anyone listens to more than Greenspan. If that man speaks of the economy going down, everyone responds that way. If he speaks of an economy going up, everyone responds that way. That man is more powerful than god!" L.J.N., East Haddam
"The economy which is based on paper and a naturally occuring element is fake as it is and just another way for the 'haves' to keep the 'have-nots' in control. If every worker in the US pocketed their money for six weeks and only spent what they needed for food and shelter and saved their money under their bed instead of in the also fake stock market and banking institutions, the national economy would go into a tailspin that no Republo-crat could recover from with the passage of any law. And then we would all sing the National anthem of China. Cheers, and don't forget to keep buying things you don't need." J.W.P., Danbury
"I may be wrong, But I believe the President has control over the fed's job status, which would make him more powerful." Steve, Killingworth
"I don't think that the President or Greenspan should be in contol of the economy. The Congress should stop playing cops and robbers and do their job." G.L., Guilford
