Respondents to this week's SNET Internet survey were about evenly divided on whether former President Bill Clinton should remain in public life, though the No. 1 vote-getter was "Who cares?".

Only 5 percent indicated they thought Clinton should run for mayor of New York City, where he has been mentioned as a possible candidate. Comments (below) indicate that the ex-president continues to provoke strong opinions among readers.

What do you think of Bill Clinton returning to public life with an office in Harlem?

  • About time, he's a great politician - 1,409 (23%)
  • He should stay retired - 1,384 (23%)
  • He should run for mayor - 287 (5%)
  • Hillary's the politician now - 184 (3%)
  • Who cares? - 2,864 (47%)

Your comments:

""Whats the big deal about an ex-president opening an office? Don't they all do that after getting out of office? Why so much media hype about it?" Al, Simsbury

"Considering the current President (a puppet of big oil, military contractors, and the insurance industry) is such a moron, any leadership Bill can provide will be helpful. I say 'Bill, keep working and remain an advocate for of people.'" A.B.M., Burlington

"Are you concerned about his return to public life or the fact that he has an office in Harlem? It would be interesting to see the results if you posed two questions." A.S., Bloomfield

"I do hope you tell Mr. Bill about this survey." J.B., West Hartford

"There appears to be a continuing double standard. Clinton abused his position, by having a sexual relationship with a very junior person and at the same time defiling the Oval Office. Condit had a sexual relationship again with a junior, at least in his own time. There is a cry for Condit's resignation; has not a major precedent been set by our late president?" P.P., Seymour

"Bill Clinton should be in jail by now." J.M., New Haven

"If the idiot who is president now is allowed to do his thing, then we need intelligent, experienced folks like Bill to contribute all they can!" P.H., Burlington

"Billy-Bob Clinton should go back to Arkansas and take up farming. Maybe then he could serve a useful purpose. After all the shady deals, communist espionage, sex scandals, and mis-management of our nations military I would be more than happy to never hear his name uttered in public again. As far as his wife Pillary Clinton is concerned, if New York voters are foolish enough to elect her, they deserve everything she is unable to deliver. Ms. Carpet-bag has no concern for New Yorkers, only for herself." Moral Minority, No Town

"HEY! HEY! HEY! Bill went to Harlem, Smart guy. Those people are down to earth, not 'mealy mouthed' like other places. And they got about the best food in New York City. And the entertainment ain't bad either! " Bubba, Bristol

"Thank you for this opportunity for me to speak my opinion. This paragraph includes my thoughts of your poll question. Please get rid of the survey of Clinton already. It seems that it has been up for longer than two weeks and I am tired of looking at it and especially his FACE! Thanks for your consideration." J.N., Thompson

"I think that Bill Clinton should stay retired and let sleeping dogs lie. Literally! I think that it is his behavior and our nation's acceptance of it that has led the the problems with Gary Condit and the Mayor of Bridgeport. It is unacceptable for me to think of these types of people leading our goverments." S.S., Waterford

"I think that Bill Clinton should return to politics! He is a good man who is a real people's person, unlike the wanna-be fraud of a president we have now who have his staff running the White House instead of him. He is just a puppet on his momma's string." Y.K., Hartford

"What does Billy Boy need with an office in Harlem? It is bad enough that they gave up Arkansas to come to New York and do their dirty work in a different state. I guess that if you are a good old boy, you need not go back to your home state and face any criminal charges none too soon. I wonder if he will try to get a nomination to office as a resident from Harlem and try to get the district vote. That would be a hoot: a caucasian representing all of Harlem. I don't think that the Black Caucus would approve. Then again, it is the former President. Give it up Bill, your time has come and gone and so should you!" G.M.K., Waterbury

"I think that the Black Panthers that were protesting Clinton coming to harlem should realize that Clinton could make it a nice place to live." Joe, Lisbon

"Clinton is a joke, a disgrace to the United States. He is the greatest of all slimeballs. He's a slimeball's slimeball. He's a great model for all slimeballs who have some political aspirations. He did almost nothing in the eight years he was President and people still loved him. He is white, trailer park trash who became President, a perfect figurehead for the Democrat party and their socialist agenda." Al, Bristol

"It's just more of the liberal propaganda and spin. it never ends with this crowd. Bill Clinton - the "first black President." Remember that one? You can see how he lived up to his campaign promises on the 'most diverse cabinet ever.' Does anyone that actually cares that this clown does have half of a brain? Are any of these Clinton worshippers capable of seeing things for what they truly are instead of what they are told to think they are? It never ceases to amaze me how blind and gullible people in this country are." D.D., Sherman

"He should be in jail instead of spending hundreds of thousands of our dollars on his office." D.3., Haddam Neck

"I think that Bill Clinton is as big of a two-faced scumbag out of office as he was in office. If he is so wonderful, if he is so caring, if he is so in touch with the 'people', why wasn't Harlem his first choice for an office location? The only reason he chose Harlem is because his original choice was so ridiculously outlandish that he needed a way to spin himself out of looking bad, so he decided he would use the African American population for his own greasy terms, which was to save Bill Clinton's bacon. Scummy, scummy, scummy and why the press eats it up like syrup with sugar on it is beyond me. Bill Clinton cares about one thing and one thing only; Bill Clinton and whether his butt is covered properly. The man was, is and always will be an embarassment to the United States." Lance, Willimantic

"I chose who cares, because nothing else seemed to fit. I don't think he was a great politician, I don't think he should retire, and Hillary is wonderful but he still has a life as well. He is not a person I respect as a husband, and father or with his lying as president. I do, however, despite his faults think he did a good job as a president. Hillary will do a great job as well. I believe that he should be able to continue with his personal life, and it does not matter what the public thinks" L.J.N., East Haddam

"Bill Clinton this and Bill Clinton that. ENOUGH! ALREADY! We all had to hold our noses as we escorted him out of the White House, and cleaned up his foul droppings he left behind, for US the American people. Harlem is the greatest place for him. CAN I NOT think of a greater reward, for a lying, cheating, 3 faced presidential 'could have been' I feel your pain Bill. I feel your pain...NOT!" Z.I.N., Middletown

"Your first response includes the phrase '...he's a great politician'. That is a given. Methinks moral degenerate is equally applicable. Exile rather than retirement is much more befitting." J., Wolcott

"Bill Clinton should be in jail like any other criminal. Any other US citizen that has held up his hand and sworn an oath to tell the truth would have been jailed for the same actions. Bill Clinton is nothing more than an embarrassment to himself, his family and this country." S.O., Manchester

"Clinton is an effective politician but no, he should not go back to public office. Instead, he should go to jail because he used the power of the federal government to cover up his personal crimes. He also appears to have sold U. S. military secrets to the Chinese in exchange for the campaign contributions he needed to perpetuate his brand of tyranny." J.K. ,Farmington

"I think he should stay retired because I never really liked him but other than that I really don't care." S.M., Chaplin

"Bill Clinton should hide his head in the sand, and never be heard from again. He has disgraced the office of the president with his lying and lack of morals. How can we even consider him a good president? He has given away our secrets and behaved like a fool. Looked the people of this country straight in the eye and lied. A real low-life in my opinion." D.M., Kent

"According to this survey, the majority of the people polled are't interested in an ex-President's retirement, why are you so obsessed?" Angel, Putnam

"Bill Clinton was and still is a disgrace to the presidency. Harlem was his second choice for an office ... REMEMBER? He lives in a "LILY- WHITE" town and says he has 'home home at last'. The black politicians fawn over him like he is their savior - but what did he ever do for blacks in the USA? Name one thing." A.A., Waterford
