Most of this week's survey respondents still generally prefer to get messages the old-fashioned way -- by telephone. Still, 29 percent expressed a preference for either email or instant (online) messaging -- no doubt, up significantly from a few years ago.
If someone needs to get a message to you, which do you prefer?
- Home phone - 1,951 (54%)
- Cell Phone - 338 (9%)
- Email - 885 (25%)
- Instant Message - 127 (4%)
- Pager - 69 (2%)
- Regular mail - 82 (2%)
- Personal visit - 132 (4%)
Your comments:
"Although any of the choices would eventually reach me, I am more likely to be reached by home phone or voicemail message on my home phone -- I check it from anywhere anytime. Email is hard to check from the mall! and I use my cell phone for emergencies -- not everyone has the number." J.R.L., Windsor Locks
"I would rather have some one call me or come to me in person if they had a message for me. I do not like the email, mail, or any other service were I would have to read it -- that takes to long. As for being paged, I would hate it because what if there is not a phone I will not be able to contact the person who paged me so I would have missed the message." Keith, Lisbon
"I prefer a home telephone because it is easier to reach unlike cell phones where you can't get ahold of someone if they are out of range or they don't have any batteries. The only disadvantage about home telephones are you can't carry them with you like you can with a beeper of cell phone." S.M., Chaplin
"Many many telephone lines in rural districts are so substandard it is difficult to even get a dial tone much less internet connection." M.J..C., Guilford
"It realy depends on how important it is to contact you! Most of the time they can call you from their home phone!" G.L., Guilford
