Windows XP: Limited or No Connectivity Status Message

If you upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 2 and you use the Windows XP PPPoE connection software, you may receive an error message indicating limited or no connectivity when you connect to the Internet. This message may be displayed despite an established Internet connection. The message "Status: Limited or no connection" will be displayed above the connection icon in the system tray as shown below:

To check that you are in fact connected to the Internet, please launch your browser. If you are able to surf the Internet, you are connected.

In order to avoid seeing the "Status: Limited or no connection" message in the future, please do the following:

  1. Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon in the system tray and the Network Connections window will appear.
  2. Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon in the Network Connections window and the Local Area Connection Properties screen will appear.
  3. On the General tab, uncheck Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity.

Previous system updates are available.
