SNET Email Storage FAQs
The following questions and answers concern the 30-day email retention policy that will be enforced on Sept 1, 2003.
Q: How does the new email storage policy affect my email service?
A: Under the new policy, email can only be stored online for a maximum of 30 days. So, if you leave emails on the server for more than 30 days, they will automatically be deleted from the server. This can include unread email if you have not checked your email in more than 30 days. So be sure to check your email often and save important emails to your computer.
Q: Why is the storage policy changing?
A: Because of the tremendous growth in email usage and the ever-increasing volume of information (photos, files, etc.) that is sent via email, SNET reached a point where it was forced to either reduce the total amount of information stored on its servers or possibly raise prices to cover the cost of keeping our servers running at optimum performance. We opted for a policy that allows us to continue to provide dependable service at the same price to you.
Q: How do I keep from losing my email?
A: For messages that you wish to keep, please go to http://www.snet.net/support/email to learn how to retain these messages according to the software program and computer operating system you are using.
Q: How do I download email to my computer?
A: Please go to http://www.snet.net/support/email/config where you'll find step-by-step instructions on how to save your email on your computer.
Q: Does my email address change?
A: No. There is no change to your email address. You will still receive email like you normally do. You just won't be able to store the messages in your inbox or folders for more than 30 days. If you wish to keep them longer, you'll need to transfer them to your computer.
Q: Does my address book need to change?
A: No. There is no change to your address book.
Q: How do I access my email?
A: You will continue to access your email the same way you have been.
