Newsgroups in Outlook Express
To set up your account for the SNET Internet Usenet news server:
- Click on "Tools" at the top of the screen and select "Accounts."
- In the ensuing screen, click on the "News" tab. Then click on
"Add" on the right side and select "News." This will open
a news account setup wizard.
- The first box will prompt you for your name. Enter it and click "Next."
- The next box will ask for your email address. Enter your own email address
(username@snet.net) and click "Next."
- The next box asks for your news or NNTP server. Enter
news.snet.sbcglobal.net
- Put a checkmark in the box next to "This server requires me to log
on." Do NOT put a check in the box next to "Log on using
Secure Password Authentication".
- Enter your SNET Internet email address as your username and your
SNET Internet password in the appropriate boxes. Important: Logging
into the news server is the only instance in the use of SNET Internet in which
your full email address (i.e., Username@snet.net) is used as a login name.)
- Put a checkmark in the box next to "Remember Password" (unless
you want to be prompted for your password each time you log in to the news
server.)
- Click "Apply" and then click "OK".
You will be asked if you wish to download the list of newsgroups from the server.
You can do so now, or you will be prompted again later. This may take a few
minutes, depending on your connection speed. After the list is downloaded, you
can subscribe to newsgroups if you wish.
